In the movie Dead Poets Society, the character who impresses me most is Mr. Keating. He creatively broadened students’ horizons in poetry and life, and inspired their independence.
Initially, he was a creative and unusual teacher. On his first lesson, he unexpectedly invited all students out to the hallway, and asked them to learn and hear from the senior. However, what the students heard was his whispers, stressing the importance of seizing their time. This left a special, if spooky, impression on them.
Moreover, it was his critical and independent thinking that benefit students the most. He expressed his contempt towards quantification on poetry, believing it would prevent one’s own thinking. And he encouraged students to listen to inner voices and walk their own ways, regardless of others’ views. This certainly inspired Neil to pursue his acting dream.
Besides, he was also very brave and dauntless. Otherwise, he couldn’t have instructed students to rip the textbooks and hinted about the former Dead Poets Society.
In short, Mr. Keating was an inspiring and daring educator.
